Manages all aspects of prospect development from initial client contact through closing. Focuses on defining and interpreting the insurance needs of a prospect and identifying solutions to address these needs. Discusses new business opportunities with appropriate markets/underwriters and provides them with complete information. Evaluates quotes from markets/underwriters and prepares proposals for client's review. Ensures a transparent transition of the client to an account manager or carrier service center. Essential Functions * Develops proposals for prospects and performs all activities necessary to convert prospect to client. * Reviews with the prospect coverage that is required by the program or franchise certificate holder and issues that may be necessary to appropriately protect their business. * Communicates client's needs and binding instructions to carriers. * Generates referrals from prospects/clients and works to cross sell other lines of coverage. * Ensures that sales activity is accurately maintained on the prospecting database. * Provides servicing account manager with a complete description of the account including any necessary additional information that will make for a smooth transition - including making arrangements for an introduction of the account manager to the client - from new business to service. * Ensures that all regulatory requirements are met and comply with all internal policies and procedures. * Assists in gathering and analyzing information on clients, prospects, products and services, competitors and other environmental factors using internal and external resources. * Other duties as assigned. Possesses broad understanding and demonstrated application of a body of knowledge. Takes on more complex projects. Cross trained to perform most functions within the team. May handle incoming new business and appropriate servicing on accounts with higher complexity. Identifies process and procedure areas of opportunity and communicates changes as needed. Mentors and provides feedback to colleagues. * Bachelor's degree preferred. * Minimum of two years experience with new business development preferred. * Minimum of two years Commercial Property & Casualty insurance experience with individual and group insurance products preferred. * Experience in marketing products in a dual role of business-to-business as well as business to consumer preferred. * Demonstrated business development and negotiation skills. * Ability to assess financial attractiveness of new leads to ensure profitability. * Ability to exercise sound judgment and strong problem solving skills. * Must demonstrate professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company standards, and a commitment to personal and professional development. * Effective written and verbal communication skills to communicate with colleagues, clients, and vendors. * Proven time management skills to manage multiple priorities and deliver timely and accurate work * Must demonstrate strong active listening and follow-up skills. * Must be highly proficient in the use of personal computers and supporting software in a Windows based environment, including MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Lotus Notes. * Should be knowledgeable in the use of intranet and internet applications. * Commercial P&C insurance license must be obtained upon hire.
