In this role you will direct the Legal and Regulatory Services Department of Standard Retirement Services, Inc. Provide advice and counsel on all legal matters affecting retirement plans and broker-dealer operations consistent with various state and federal statutory and regulatory requirements to advance business goals and protect the companies from unintended liability. Direct high liability and complex legal proceedings.
Additionally you will be responsible for managing the work environment, identifying workforce needs and ensuring alignment with corporate manager expectations, values and vision.
Responsibilities: . Provide legal advice and counsel to develop and support the strategy and business operations of the retirement plans companies. Advise sales, service and administration staff on complex plan and product design, regulatory issues and advanced underwriting mattes. Minimize and manage litigation involving Retirement Plans matters.
. Manage legal staff and activities in complying with state and federal laws and regulations, with particular emphasis through direct involvement or management of outside counsel in Securities and Exchange Commissions, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and state insurance matters. Recommend and implement appropriate action in response to legislative and regulatory changes and case law. Assist all retirement plans companies in meeting compliance and market conduct responsibilities.
. Advise the retirement plans companies on new product ideas and development. Manage new product development with particular legal sensitivity or complexity. Assist in the production of financial and administrative service contracts and ensure continuing compliance with applicable laws.
. Participate in Retirement Plans management activities, including budgeting, strategic and short-term planning, employee meetings, and decision-making and department meetings.
. Manage broker-dealer operational expansion and activities. Advise StanCorp Investment Advisers as needed with respect to Retirement Plan activities. Serve on the investment due diligence committee for Retirement Plans accounts.
Qualifications: . Juris Doctor Degree.
. 10 years of experience in retirement plans or related field.
. Professional certification required: Series 24 securities license and active member in good standing of the Oregon State Bar.
