Job Description
Responsible for reviewing and evaluating claims within the RLI claims department. Reviews policies on all new claims for coverage determination. Investigate liability and proximate cause and damages. Negotiate and resolve claims through settlements or litigation. Retain, monitor, and direct counsel through all phases of litigation. Review billings received from attorneys. Contact claimant, insured and witnesses.  Authority level for Claim Tech II is typically $10,000 to $25,000 (unless specific job duties mandate a lower or higher authority level).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Review billings received from attorneys to ensure adherence within RLI’s attorney billing guidelines.
* Contact claimant, insured and witnesses, after receiving the claim to verify coverage.
* Obtain records, information, and documents relating to the claim.
* Assist in special projects and other duties as needed.
* Verify special and general damages.
* Determine liability based on venue, negligence, and other factors.
* Document all contact with claimant, broker, attorney, or other contacts.
 
Required Skills
* Ability to use analytical methods in claim processes to find workable solutions.

* Ability to generate innovative solutions within the claims department.

* Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external contacts on claim department matters.
*  
* Ability to manage and develop subordinates to ensure increased performance.
*  
* Ability to use software to summarize and analyze large amounts of data.
Required Experience
2-5 years of experience as a claim examiner with a background investigating and resolving liability claims, primarily involving slip and fall accident claims.  Experience and knowledge of insurance coverage, file documentation and negotiation skills are required.
