Job Summary: To ensure a profitable book of new and renewal business through field underwriting by appropriately pricing acceptable risks and rejecting those that are not acceptable within authority limits established. To market company products and services to critical agents with frequent visits and to participate in the agency management process.

Responsibilities:
* Within delegated authority levels and company guidelines, accepts, rejects or modifies new and renewal business for all excess casualty to ensure a profitable book of business. Prices business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines within individual underwriting authority limits, and ensures standards for timeliness are met. Expected to maintain frequent physical visit schedule and telephone relationships with all assigned agents.
* Markets products through critical agent contacts to achieve company growth and profitability targets. Develops on-going relationships with agents, monitors agency growth, profitability and quality of submissions, and keeps agent up-to-date with underwriting and/or product changes. Expected to communicate relationship issues and salient business situations with the underwriting team including the branch manager.
* Is assigned to handle and manage the most complex books of new and renewal business to maximize profitability and growth.
* Gathers and communicates competitive excess casualty marketing data including pricing and product information and product development opportunities. Promotes the company's public image by actively seeking out opportunities to speak to insurance-related groups and by networking within the insurance community to keep abreast of changes in the industry. Maintains professional qualifications by participating in continuing education programs.
* Provides guidance to subordinate underwriters if appropriate.
* Identifies and works with commercial lines underwriting team on any commercial lines rollover opportunities and develops rapport and relationship with such to actively solicit opportunities from such.
* Trains, coaches, and serves as technical resource to other underwriters and associate underwriters. Can assist a Territory Manager in training new agencies or instructing new agents on LAU products, processes, underwriting policies and standards, etc.
* May perform rating and other support functions as needed.
Qualifications:
* Bachelors degree or equivalent.
* 5 years commercial lines underwriting experience.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation and sales skills.
* Superior technical commercial lines knowledge (casualty emphasis) and analytical skills, field experience preferred.
* Proficiency with MS Office programs.
* Ability to form relationships with agents, producers, CSRs, etc.
* Ability to be self-motivated.
