Job Description
Individual contributor responsible for the overall management, business development, analysis and monitoring of a highly complex book of commercial Property business. Recognized as a technical expert in property underwriting as a specialty. Under general management direction, works within broad limits of authority on assignments requiring a high degree of technical complexity and coordination. This role will have regional, industry segment or company-wide scope, along with product development. Develop and manage an assigned product line to optimize profit and meet marketing, financial, and corporate growth objectives by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works on highly complex underwriting risks employing diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability. Develops specialized endorsement language for highly complex risk.
- Determines appropriate pricing of complex risks for assigned book of business based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
- Makes recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy.
- Analyzes quality and quantity of highly complex risks underwritten; prepares and presents reports to management.
- Participates in research and analysis of new product ideas and interprets results. Works with senior management to evaluate the cost/benefit of market opportunities and new initiatives.
- Develop new product ideas and move them through the Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) keeping product sponsors updated.
- May market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community.
- Act as product line expert and maintain a thorough knowledge of company product features and benefits as well as industry product trends. Provide product expertise to various internal areas to include sales, marketing, service and finance.
- Develops and maintains agency and/or broker relationships to reach positive and profitable outcomes on complex, high-risk business.
- Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups.
- Assists in developing and delivery of information for training and product promotions to home office and external distribution. Provides specialized product training on new products and features.
- Will mentor and guide less experienced underwriters and assist in the development of underwriting training.
- Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations
Position Requirements
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Typically a minimum ten years of national account large property underwriting experience required. CAT modeling and Wind Strategies experience highly desired.
- Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skill and high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.
- Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
- Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
- Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
