Job Description
Summary/Overview: The Program Underwriter is responsible for overall management of assigned program/s. The program book of business is defined by the underwriting guidelines established and agreed to by AIX Group and the specific program manager.
Responsibilities include:
- Underwriting individual accounts for assigned programs, to insure adherence to the underwriting guidelines, premium and profit objectives of the specific program.
- The underwriter is responsible for sales planning and monitoring, customer relations and all administrative activities relating to the assigned program.
- Works closely with all levels of management, including senior management and outside agents.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accepts prices and binds insurance within underwriting authority and brokers to other underwriters insurance beyond authority.
- Review all required information on an account including but not limited to the application, the proposed pricing of the risk, loss control, and financial condition of the risk.
- Line specific information such as the WC experience modification rating worksheet, individual motor vehicle records, property insurance to value calculations, evaluation of the currently valued historical loss information, and web based information available to assist the underwriter in evaluating and pricing the account.
- Select and price individual risks to make sure that the risks meet the agreed underwriting guidelines and program parameters to insure the success and profitability of the assigned program book.
- Provide prompt service to the program manager regarding all servicing aspects of the program book of business including timely response to submissions, clear communication when an account does not meet the underwriting parameters established for the specific program book.
- Process policy issuance and endorsements in accordance with filed rating plans.
- Monitor monthly production, claim reports, hi-lighting positive as well as negative trends on a monthly basis in terms of production and profitability.
- Make recommendations to insure the overall success of a specific program.
- Perform annual underwriting audits of the program managers underwriting file to affirm that the established underwriting and documentation requirements are being adhered to by the program manager.
- Coordinate rate revision input on assigned programs.
- Evaluate the loss potential due to catastrophe, severity, and/or frequency.
- Utilizes knowledge of automated systems to develop information for new or renewal policies.
Position Requirements
Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelors degree from four-year college or university in business or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimally 7 years in commercial lines insurance industry; program underwriter experience required.
- Working knowledge of how the reinsurance structure works for the assigned program, including a full understanding of the reinsurance pricing structure and targeted loss ratios that need to be achieved to insure the profitability of the specific program.
- CPCU or IIA designation preferred.
- Competent in Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
- Competent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; ability to multi-task
