Senior Claims Examiner
|
The Senior Claims Examiner is responsible for adjusting and controlling moderately complex claims involving physical damage, property damage, cargo and medical expenses which occur in Canada and the U.S.A., with the expectation of reducing the ultimate cost of claims while maintaining the highest level of customer service. Additional responsibilities include prompt and efficient handling of administrative functions.
Key Accountabilities •Conduct a thorough and timely investigation when handling all claims. •Develop and execute detailed and effective action plans, providing sound solutions to moderately complex claim situations with limited direction. •Independently select the most effective solution from amongst all available alternatives on a consistent basis. •Possess a strong familiarity with all applicable policy wordings, related endorsements and those sections of the Insurance and related Acts governing the handling of claims within their control. •Conduct research in order to obtain the required level of understanding of legal issues surrounding matters affecting claims within their area of responsibility, with minimal direction. •Independently and accurately assess Markel’s exposure under the terms of the applicable insurance contract, and independently process data input in order to ensure accurate reserves and loss information is maintained at all times. •Independently produce professional quality, accurate & detailed reports and correspondence for both internal and external consumption. •Maintain files in accordance with Corporate guidelines, including detailed and descriptive file notes which accurately record and reflect all salient loss details, activities, action planning and decision making processes. •Prepare detailed file synopsis, large loss and reinsurance reports as required. •Refer requests for claim decisions, with detailed analysis and recommendations, beyond personal authority to the Manager, Claims. •Provide accurate and timely data input into the claims system according to Corporate guidelines for data capturing and management assigned to this position. •Manage and execute daily work processes within the assigned portfolio of customer files in order to achieve the Corporate Customer Service Standards. •Retain and manage service providers according to Corporate guidelines, as required. •Responsible for prompt and early contact with our customers, timely response to customer inquiries •Independently attend mediations, arbitrations and settlement conferences as required. •Prepare detailed file synopses and large loss reports as required. •Responsible for own data entry. •Responsible for creating and distributing new claims. •Maintain claims records storage system. •Other related duties as required.
